This issue explains why you should use a gear motor.

1. Adding a gear motor can reduce rotational inertia, generally decreasing it by the square of the gear ratio, allowing timely control of start, stop, and speed changes.

2. A gear motor increases torque, which is equivalent to increasing input power, reducing the power required by the input motor (in situations where speed control is needed). Usually, motors are expensive, so using a gear motor is considered.

3. Gear motors protect the motor in transmission. During operation, the reducer bears a large torque, and in case of overload, only the overloaded amount divided by the gear ratio is transmitted to the motor. If handled directly by the motor, it could cause damage.

4. In cases of extreme overload, the reducer will be damaged first, but it can be restored by replacing parts at a relatively low cost. If the motor is damaged directly, repairs are slower and more expensive.

5. When a gear motor is directly connected to the load and running at low speed, the motor current will inevitably increase significantly to meet the output torque. This places higher requirements on motor cooling and insulation, and from an energy-saving perspective, it is undesirable. Using a gear motor can mitigate these issues.
